Painting

I have been painting since teenage age. Initially I had a great interest in portraits and surrealistic images. During my study of Art Therapy between 2007-2011, where 1 year was dedicated to developing your own artistic language, I discovered the colour field and the dimension of space on canvas. This fascination remains until today.

The paintings presented here are abstract and expressive. I work with spatulas, rollers, sponges and hands, layering paint and and removing parts of it again, until the feeling of saturation and coherence in the picture sets in. The end of a process is spontaneous, then I intuitively feel „the painting is finished (for now)“.

Over the last couple of years I made a series of paintings I call “Space-scapes”. They are transmitting an atmosphere through light, colour and textures, creating fields layered horizontally across the canvas. These compositions may have a resemblance with landscapes stripped of all objects in space, hence “Space-scapes”, concentrating on the essential quality of a particular natural environment. Included within this exploration are considerations around saturation/materiality of space and it’s transcending and ethereal nature.
